The National Cutting Horse Association is hosting a celebrity cutting competition to benefit UT Southwestern on Nov. 29.

The National Cutting Horse Association Summer Spectacular, the third jewel in the circuit’s crown, is underway in Fort Worth at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. With a purse worth more than $2 million on the line, the competition inside the coliseum is fierce.

City council members agreed Wednesday to pump the brakes on completely banning horse-drawn carriages in Dallas to get more public opinion and data on carriage operations.

A Dallas group opposing horse carriages says they should be banned before horses or humans get hurt. Operators say a ban would put them out of business.

Members of Dallas' Quality of Life, Arts and Culture committee questioned whether horses used to pull carriages are being treated humanely and if the historical, tourism-driven mode of getting around still has a place on Dallas roads.
