The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Dallas police today will release data on use of force after meeting with top White House officials in Washington.
The data will include how often an officer pulls a gun, uses a baton or has to physically take down a suspect. Officials say they hope the information will help reduce the number of physical altercations between officers and suspects.
In Washington, Chief David Brown’s expected to discuss department changes made after the shooting of an unarmed man in 2012 in South Dallas. After the shooting, Brown implemented new training on how to use tasers and a foot chase policy. Since then, DPD has launched a web page covering 12 years of shootings by police, which is regularly updated.
