From The Newsroom: Two North Texas Counties Prepare For Immigrant Children

About 500 kids will stay at the Lakeview Camp and Retreat Center in Ellis County.

The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom: Hundreds of undocumented children are expected to arrive in North Texas today.

About 500 kids will stay at the Lakeview Camp and Retreat Center near Waxahachie. Rockwall County says it’s expecting about 300 children at a campsite there.

Last year, officials saw a surge in the number of children coming into the U.S., mostly from Central America. This fall, the number of kids crossing the border has risen.

At a brief news conference yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott said he had warned Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson about it, and had asked for more law enforcement at the border.
