Top Stories: 400 Years After Shakespeare, His Presence Is Still Felt; Celebrating Earth Day

The top local stories this afternoon from KERA News: Many people were shocked to hear in February that kids from a Dallas charter school endured racial insults during their trip to Texas A&M in College Station. 

As KERA's Bill Zeeble reports, more dramatic stories came out during a symposium today sponsored by the Uplift charter school chain.

The festival that bills itself as the largest Earth Day bash in the world kicked off today in Dallas. The three-day Earth Day Texas festival is expected to draw more than 50,000 people to Fair Park this weekend.

Other stories this afternoon: 

  • This month marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.  In North Texas, we’ve been seeing film screenings, performances, there’s even a pub crawl this weekend. The Dallas Shakespeare Club, our oldest women’s club, marked its 100th anniversary by buying a First Folio and giving it to the Library in 1986.
