The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom:

The U.S. Supreme Court will hold a private conference today to consider whether to hear cases on abortion laws in Texas and Mississippi. The case in Texas involves a 2013 law that requires a physician who performs an abortion to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the procedure.

That law also requires abortion clinics to meet standards set for ambulatory surgical centers.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports if the Supreme Court accepts one or both of these cases, the legal climax could come amid the 2016 presidential campaign.

Other stories this morning:

  • A string of violent attacks in the Oak Lawn neighborhood of Dallas is uniting residents there.
  • In our Friday Conservation, you’ll hear from the new Episcopal Bishop of Dallas, who will be consecrated tomorrow.
