From The Newsroom: Dallas Street Choir Teams Up With Opera Singers; Katy Trail Robbers Arrested

The top local stories this evening from the KERA Newsroom: Dallas Police announced they’ve arrested two suspects in connection with at least one of the crimes. Police Major Max Geron said two men have each been charged with one count of aggravated assault. 

Freshman state Senator Don Huffines is generating headlines this week. The North Texan wants Dallas’ 13 year-old LGBT non-discrimination ordinance rescinded. The city’s aim is to protect all residents. 

The stars of Dallas Opera's "Great Scott" will shift gears and sing hits from Broadway at the Winspear Opera House Friday.  And for part of the performance, they'll be joined by the Dallas Street Choir. Most of the choir's singers are homeless. 

Jonathan Palant is the founder and conductor of the Dallas Street Choir.  He says that this singing group is about much more than music.
