Top Stories: Texas Senators Speak Out About Sutherland Springs Church Shooting

The First Baptist Church, where 26 people were killed in a shooting, remains an active crime scene according to local law enforcement.

Texas Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz on Monday offered their condolences to the families of the victims killed in Sunday's shooting in Sutherland Springs. The lawmakers touched on the unity shown by fellow Texans, and about the need to slow down the gun control debate.

  • Al Meredith understands what the people in Sutherland Springs are feeling right now. He was pastor of Wedgewood Baptist Church in Fort Worth when it was the target in a mass shooting in 1999. Today on Think, he talked with Krys Boyd about what the community will need to recover from this tragedy.

  • Recovering from the emotional effects of a mass shooting or a natural disaster can sometimes take years. Dr. Carol North is a crisis psychiatrist with UT Southwestern Medical Center, and has studied survivors of major disasters. KERA's Justin Martin recently caught up with North about coping with tragedy.
