Top Stories: Van Zweden Heading To NY Philharmonic; Irving State Of The City

The top stories this afternoon from KERA News: The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday to approve a controversial zoning application for a charter school in south Dallas. 

The vote was close and the application passed 7 to 6. Uplift Education wants to build a new school near Interstate-35 and Camp Wisdom Road. 

Irving has been in the national spotlight in recent months – especially after a Muslim teen was arrested and suspended for bringing a homemade clock to school.

Then there have been protests against Islam. During her annual State of the City address Tuesday night, Mayor Beth Van Duyne steered clear of controversy. She instead highlighted several economic development efforts.
