Top Stories: Dallas ISD School Board To Discuss Tax Options; Confederate History In Dallas

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: At a special meeting tonight, the Dallas school board will consider asking voters for more money through a tax ratification election this fall.

Three tax options are on the table: One would set 13 cents per $100 of assessed property value, which would raise $120 million for the district. The second option would be a 6-cent boost, which would raise $70 million.

The third option is a 2-cent tax swap, which would reserve a small portion of the district’s tax revenues to pay off debt. A swap would move that money to another pot where it could be spent for programs, but it would make future bond plans tougher.
