The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Former governor Rick Perry today puts in his first full day as energy secretary.

Yesterday’s Senate confirmation vote ended a remarkable turnaround in his relationship with President Trump. Perry once described Trump in the summer of 2015 as a "cancer on conservatism." But Perry also was one of the first establishment Republicans to fall in line once Trump essentially locked down the nomination last May.

Perry’s the third Texan to serve as secretary of energy after Charles Duncan of Houston and Laredo native Federico Peña.
