Top Stories: Campus Carry Begins Across Texas; How To Treat Cataracts

Todd Wiseman
/
Texas Tribune

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: The state’s campus carry law goes into effect today. Concealed licensed gun owners can now carry their weapons into state colleges and university buildings, classrooms and dorms across Texas.

Though the state allows open carry, it’s still prohibited on college campuses.

Campus carry won’t go into effect for community and junior colleges until next year. Private schools can opt out of the law, and most have.

Texas is the eighth state to allow campus carry

Other stories this morning:

  • At least 100 people marched peacefully through downtown Dallas Friday night to protest police tactics. The demonstration came just three weeks after a much bigger protest ended when a gunman killed five Dallas police officers.
  • An estimated 24 million Americans over the age of 40 have cataracts. This edition of Vital Signs explores the symptoms and the ways to treat it.
