Top Stories: Texas Lawmakers To Discuss Fetal Tissue; Films That Inspire NPR’s Bob Mondello

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Texas lawmakers will meet today to examine policies on how human fetal tissue is used for scientific research.

It’ll be the first hearing on the subject since a Harris County grand jury indicted two undercover anti-abortion activists circulated videos about how fetal tissue was obtained at Planned Parenthood clinics.

Other stories this morning:

  • The Dallas City Council yesterday approved a historic designation for Big Spring, which is one of the last known natural springs in the city. Others natural springs in the city, such as Kidd Springs and Cedar Springs, have been paved over.
  • Stephen Becker of our Big Screen team talked with NPR’s Bob Mondello about the films that inspired him to become a critic.
