The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Polls are open until 7 tonight to vote in the Texas primary. Republican presidential candidates are vying for 155 delegates, while Democrats have 251 delegates for the taking.

Since Texas is not a winner-take-all state, even a second or third place finish among the candidates mean they’ll still come away with some delegates.

More than 1.7 million - or 12 percent of registered voters in the 15 largest counties - were cast in early voting.

KERA will have live coverage of the results tonight at 7. We’ll also be live-blogging throughout the day.

Other stories this morning:

  • Texas has already had five statewide election under its voter ID law. However, today marks the first use of the law in a presidential primary.
  • Cursive writing is usually taught in grade school, but instruction of it has been cut back in recent years because of smartphones and tablets.

You can listen to North Texas stories weekdays at 8:22 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. on KERA 90.1 FM.
