The top local stories this morning from KERA News: The Dallas City Council today will vote on a resolution to ban a traveling porn expo from returning to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.

Mayor Mike Rawlings is behind the resolution to ban Exxxotica, and he has the support of billionaire oilman Ray Hunt.

Convention Center Executive Director Ron King said the facility can’t discriminate based on content. However, Rawlings says he’s not concerned about a potential lawsuit from Exxxotica’s director.

That’s a reversal from last year. Several organizations at the time asked Rawlings to keep Exxxotica out of the city-owned convention center, but the mayor said he could do nothing about it.

Police and convention center officials told the Dallas Morning News Exxxotica’s event last year was trouble- and complaint-free.

Other stories this morning:

  • New research is out on the effect of voter ID laws. A study from the University of California San Diego found “Racial and ethnic minority turnout declined much more significantly in states with strict voter ID laws in place.
  • When kids get sick at school, it can be a big disruption for the kids and the parents. A growing telemedicine program run by Children’s Medical Center may change that.
