From The Newsroom: New Patent Office Opens In Dallas; Statin And Flu Shot Concerns

The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom:

A new U.S. Patent and Trademark regional office will open this morning in downtown Dallas. The office will serve entrepreneurs and inventors in eight states. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is No. 11 nationwide for the number of U.S. patents granted from 2000 to 2013.

  • UT Arlington is developing a different kind of treatment for serious hand wounds – a healing glove. Lauren Silverman reports the glove would deliver medicine to an injured hand to help speed up recovery time
  • In this edition of Vital Signs, Sam Baker and Dr. Jeffrey Kahn from UT Southwestern Medical Center discuss two new studies suggesting the flu vaccine may not work well for statin users.
