The top local stories this morning from the KERA Newsroom: Polls are open until 7 p.m. across Texas. Voters will get to decide on seven proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution, which range from property tax exemptions to highway construction.

Several North Texas school districts will be having bond elections as well.

UT Arlington political scientist Rebecca Deen says voter turnout tends to be low in years where there’s no big race on the ballot.

Other stories this morning:

  • Stella Chavez digs into how the Nation’s Report Card, a national assessment of schools, graded the Dallas school district.
  • The Texas Supreme Court began hearing a case yesterday that could affect an estimated 350,000 home-schooled children in Texas. The case stems from a fight between an El Paso school district and Laura and Michael McIntyreover whether the curriculum they were using to home-school their nine children met state standards. The family says the school district is infringing on their religious liberty.
