A North Texas school board has censured a new member who made anti-Muslim online comments about another elected community leader.

Keller Independent School District trustee Jo Lynn Haussmann apologized again Monday night for her remarks about Southlake City Council member Shahid Shafi, who was also elected in May.

The board voted 5-1 to censure Haussmann, who cast the lone dissenting vote. Censure is a form of public disapproval.

Another Keller ISD board member was out of town during the public meeting in which a number of speakers called on Haussmann to resign. She's refused.

Haussman posted comments on Facebook criticizing low turnout in local elections and said: "YOU NOW HAVE A 'MUSLIM' on the City Council!!! What A SHAME!!!!!"  The comments were later deleted.

Board President Jim Stitt said: "We considered and exhausted all possible options. Therefore, we will have to put this behind us and move forward. As a Board, we will once again focus our time and energy where it matters most and that’s on continuing the exceptional work of Keller ISD."
