Dallas, TX – The Dallas Independent School District hopes to fill about 700 teaching positions for the new school year that starts August 22nd. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more on today's internal job fair.

District spokesperson Jon Dahlander says today's event at Conrad High School is for DISD employees only, to replace many those who took the early buyout.

The positions were lost to save the district money, because of state education funding cuts. In addition, the DISD cut some teachers after it increased class sizes for grades 6 through 12.

Dahlander: We knew that this day was coming. We knew that there would be a challenge in trying to place people from secondary campuses and other locations, but we had to do it some time and today's the day.

In all, the DISD lost 1442 positions. It must replace some of the teachers who taught subjects in short supply but who were lured away by the early buyout incentives.
