Rick Perry Endorsed By Former Rival & Midday Roundup

By KERA News & Wire Services

Dallas, TX – U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is publicly patching things up with her former rival, calling Gov. Rick Perry the "personification of Texas" and urging voters to re-elect him for another four years.

The two duked it out in a bruising GOP primary that ended with a resounding Perry victory in March. At the state party convention in Dallas Friday, Hutchison used a bit of humor in an endorsement of her former foe.

"I had hoped that you would be introducing me," she told Perry at a Republican women's event. "But I can count." She also said she had hoped to be governor "in the worst way" but instead wound up waging the "worst" campaign.

Perry accepted the embrace and thanked Hutchison for "fighting the good fight" in Washington.

Prado, Meadows Museum announce partnership

Southern Methodist University's Meadows Museum and Spain's Prado Museum have announced a three-year partnership to send works by El Greco, Velazquez and Ribera to Dallas.

The partnership, announced Friday, will also include interdisciplinary research at SMU, an internship exchange between the two museums and public programs.

El Greco's painting "Pentecost" will be on display at the Meadows Museum starting Sept. 12. Next year, Madrid's Prado will lend Jusepe de Ribera's "Mary Magdalene" to the Meadows. In 2012, Diego Velazquez's full length portrait of Philip IV will be displayed in Dallas.

Texas, Texas A&M discuss Big 12 future

The presidents and athletic directors of Texas and Texas A&M have met to discuss their programs since Colorado is leaving the Big 12 to join the Pac-10.

Nebraska is weighing a move to the Big Ten.

Congressman Chet Edwards of Waco -- home to Baylor, the only private school in the Big 12 -- is urging Texas legislators to immediately hold public hearings on any potential move by the schools.

The Associated Press reports a person briefed about the discussions said the situation was "still fluid" and the Texas schools could stay in the Big 12. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said everyone was waiting for Nebraska's expected announcement.

The Pac-10 is reportedly interested in inviting Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to form a 16-team league. The Aggies could also head to the Southeastern Conference.
