Dallas, TX – Dallas County's computers are up and running. But the downtown Records Building, flooded by a water main break Monday night, won't reopen for business for another week. KERA's BJ Austin reports.

It took longer than expected to pump six feet of water from the Records building basement, and longer than anticipated to dry out electrical panels. A generator is providing power to the fifth floor computer area. The computers are up and running, and the county's website is back online.

The 400 people who work in the Records Building are to report to work Monday morning at various "other" locations. The building itself is not expected to re-open for county business for another week. Officials say June 14th is the soft target date.

Meanwhile, most of the Record building's county business is now in the basement of the nearby George Allen Courts building: including probate Court, property deeds; and marriage licenses. Dallas County Judge Jim Foster says the water main break is costing the county at least a million dollars.
