Dallas, TX – Dallas led the nation last year in population growth, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.. KERA's Bill Zeeble has more.
The U.S. Census says Dallas's population grew by more than 140,000 people from July 2008 to July 2009. That number actually represents people in the Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington region of North Texas. Houston ranked number 2.
This was the 2nd year in a row Dallas topped the population growth chart. When looking at the past decade, North Texas expanded by nearly a million and half people, attracted in part by lower home and cost-of-living prices, a relatively stable economy, and a better place to land a job, when compared to other cities.
As a result, the state could add up to 3 additional Representatives in the U.S. House.
