Dallas, TX – Ten North Texas Chambers of Commerce, and three medical associations, are challenging people to get fit in the New Year.

The Dallas Regional Chamber has launched the "Live Healthy North Texas" 100-day wellness challenge.

From January 14th through April 23rd, groups of employees compete for individual and team prizes for the most exercise minutes and most pounds lost. Progress is calculated on the "Live Healthy North Texas" website.

Wally Gomaa, with the Dallas Chamber's Health Task Force, says he's a graduate of one of these programs.

Gomaa: About 9 years and 10 months ago I personally lost over 140 pounds, and have been able to keep the weight off. So, I'm a personal example of how an organization can make a difference in the health of your employees. And make it a life long difference.

Dallas Chamber President Jim Oberwetter says the healthier we are, the more we're able to lower healthcare costs. And he says that benefits everyone.
