Dallas, TX –

The newest radio station in North Texas signs on Monday: KXT, 91.7. It's "public radio" dedicated to an eclectic mix of music. KERA's BJ Austin has more.

KXT 91.7 music selection coordinator Gini Mascorro has been very busy listening and compiling playlists.

And yes, it's that Gini Mascorro, the midday voice on KERA 90.1 who has moved up the FM dial to the new 91.7 KXT. She's optimistic North Texas will tune in for what she calls a heavy, healthy gumbo of good sound.

Mascorro: There are so many great artists around North Texas that hopefully we'll be able to give them their rightful place in the sun. What we want to do is feature our North Texas, and Texas artists alongside the chart people and the things that we think of as iconic gems.

KERA announced the purchase of the non-commercial license for 91.7 in June - with a commitment to provide a second public radio station and services to the listeners of North Texas.
