Dallas, TX –

The start of a new school-week was anything but routine in a South Oak Cliff neighborhood this morning.

Police Senior Corporal Kevin Janse says a man pointed a gun at a 17 year old girl going to her car in her driveway on South Waverly. He demanded the car keys and money.

Janse says patrol officers then spotted the car, and chased it until the suspect bailed out. So, officers launched a foot chase thru neighborhoods.

Janse: This did happen in an area that's populated with numerous middle schools and elementary schools. So, we contacted DISD and let them know what was going on while we were looking for the suspect. They took the precautionary measure to lock down half a dozen of their schools.

The suspect, identified as Kenneth Jenkins, was captured, and is charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest.

A responding police officer was injured when a car occupied by a woman and a 12 year old boy collided with the squad car at South Oak Cliff Boulevard and Brooklyn Avenue. All three were taken to local hospitals. Police say the injuries are not life-threatening.
