Dallas – The Dallas school board has unanimously approved teacher pay raises of nearly 3.5 percent.
Other school district employees will receive a 3 percent raise.
Katherine Brothers, with the teacher organization "NEA Dallas," praised those workers, from cooks & custodians to clerical staff, who had not seen a raise for the past 2 years. She addressed school board members before the vote.
Brothers: If teachers are the backbone of this district, then these employees are the muscles that keep the backbone in place. Schools would both literally and figuratively fall apart without support staff.
The raises take effect in this 2009-2010 school year.
