The Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas is remembering Senator Edward Kennedy, who died Tues. night of brain cancer. KERA's BJ Austin says a special "memory book" is in place for visitors to record their thoughts on the legacy of the youngest Kennedy brother.
The Sixth Floor Museum documents the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy during a motorcade through downtown Dallas. But archivist Gary Mack says the Museum goes beyond that single tragic event.
Mack: We have a whole history of the Kennedy family and the Kennedy legacy. We're hoping that Senator Ted Kennedy's legacy, which is a lifelong commitment to public service, is what people will remember about him.
Yvonne Entjes, from the Netherlands, signed the Memory Book for Senator Kennedy. She says her visit to Dealey Plaza and the Museum was especially poignant.
Entjes: I also say when I go to Dallas I want to see the shooting site from JFK because he was a great president. As a matter of fact, I think the whole Kennedy family was ah great leaders.
Frank Alaimo, a firefighter from Connecticut, says as a Republican he frequently disagreed with Senator Kennedy's politics. But as he toured the Museum, his thoughts were with the Kennedy family.
Alaimo: It just seems like they've had so much tragedy in their family for being such prominent people. It just seems odd that they've had the luck they've had and the misfortune, along with the prosperity they've had.
The Memory Book for Senator Ted Kennedy will be available at the Sixth Floor Museum through the weekend, possibly longer.
