Dallas, TX – Divers are searching for a nine-month old missing Dallas girl in Lake Lewisville - near the I-35 bridge. KERA's BJ Austin says the baby's 19 year old mother has recanted her story of a kidnapping.

Dallas Police Senior Corporal Kevin Janse says the 19 year old mother now says she found the baby cold, unresponsive, lying on the floor when she arrived home from work last Tuesday. In police documents, she tells investigators her 20 year old husband would not say what happened. Janse says the woman admits the story of the kidnapping by an intruder was a lie. She told police to look in the lake. He says this Amber Alert case has been very frustrating.

Janse: We knew there was a 9 month old baby girl, and we wanted to find her. It was very frustrating in the fact that we were not getting any information from the parents. That did lead to a long, drawn out search that obviously didn't need to take place.

The parents are in jail, arrested for tampering with evidence, and the search for their daughter continues. Janse expects charges will be upgraded in the case: when, and specific charges against whom, he can't say at this time.
