Dallas, TX – A Dallas County Sheriff's Deputy plans to plead guilty to federal drug charges next week. KERA's BJ Austin says the deputy and two others were arrested in January after an undercover "sting" at a South Dallas truck stop.
Prosecutors say 36 year old Deputy Standric Choice was involved in a scam to steal cocaine from a drug dealer, and make it look like a "bust" by police. The scam called for a cocaine transaction between a confidential informant and a drug dealer, both of whom were actually working undercover for federal drug agents.
Deputy Choice arrived at the truck stop on Bonnie View where he faked the arrest of the informant; then seized the four kilos of cocaine. The drugs were later split among the group. Choice was arrested when he returned for the Dallas County Sheriff's Department from the truck stop.
Prosecutors have received guilty pleas from the two other men involved in the deal to steal drugs from the dealer -- referred to as "trading licks." Deputy Choice faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.
