Dallas, TX – Dallas marked Veterans Day with a ceremony at City Hall and a parade through downtown. KERA's BJ Austin was there, and spoke with spectators about Veterans Day, 2008.

I'm Linda Splatt. I'm from Dallas Texas. My father served in the war, World War II. I'm very grateful for his contribution and certainly appreciate the current soldiers who are providing safety and security for us. So this is a very special day for me.

My name is Jonathan, and what Veterans Day means to me is appreciating everybody who has gone to war and done everything for us.

My name is Ricardo Gonzalez. I'm from Dallas. And like my brother said, appreciating all the things they've done for us. I actually have my uncle who is over there right now.

Lou Vasquez from Mesquite, Texas. My father served faithfully in World War II. He was at the battle of Normandy. I have a son right now in the United States Marine Corps. He's been to Iraq twice to serve his country. So, that's why my wife and I are here today.

Nelda Vasquez, proud Marine mom of a Corporal U.S. Marine, Manny Vasquez.

My name is Greg Nabor. I'm a Vietnam Veteran - served with the 11th Armored Cav in Vietnam in 1970. It's important that somebody cares.
