A Plano Pakistani Imam Fights Deportation

Dallas, TX – Pakistani Imam Safdar Razi Amir Ali participated in the immigration hearing in a Dallas courtroom on closed circuit television. He's in an immigration detention center in west Texas. Ali was arrested at his home in Plano April 2nd for immigration violations He has applied for political asylum, but at the hearing, Judge Anthony Rogers told attorneys the Ali is probably not eligible because he's asking for asylum too late. Ali entered the US on a religious work visa in the late 1990's. An associate at the Institute of Islamic Learning in Plano, fears that Ali might be killed if he returned to Pakistan - because of his association with Iraq's influential Shia Cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani. . The next hearing on the Iman's future is April 29th.
