With the help of about 200 volunteers, the faith-based organization OurCalling served a holiday meal to more than 500 people experiencing homelessness Wednesday.

The faith-based nonprofit OurCalling broke ground Wednesday on a tiny home village outside the city of Ferris, south of Dallas. It will serve homeless individuals who need medical care and additional assistance.

Dallas groups that help the homeless say they learned some important lessons during severe winter storms over the recent years — and the COVID pandemic.

Teams from the nonprofit OurCalling spent hours during the winter storm crisscrossing Dallas, offering a ride to shelter to those who didn’t have any. But not everyone they encounter on the streets was interested in leaving.

The service organization says Dallas residents can download an app that will alert OurCalling team members to people in need of immediate housing.
