New figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed the American Medical Association's predictions of higher overdose numbers from illicit opioids during the pandemic – 90,000 nationwide. Texas had 4,000 of those overdoses, the highest number among states.

The amount of meth seized in the U.S. more than doubled from 2017 to 2018. That translates to lots more meth, along with cocaine and other stimulants, on the streets — and likely more deaths.

The return of methamphetamine is overwhelming police, ERs and treatment centers — especially west of the Mississippi. But, unlike opioid dependency, meth addiction has no reliable treatment.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents at an Arizona port of entry uncovered over 254 pounds of fentanyl and nearly 395 pounds of methamphetamine in the trailer.
