Equality PAC said Johnson’s loss in this week’s Democratic runoff diminishes the community’s representation in Congress. Johnson was the first openly LGBTQ+ person from and from the South elected to federal office.

Former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred won the Democratic nomination for House District 33 in Dallas County, defeating his incumbent predecessor Julie Johnson.

Early voting for the May primary runoffs takes place from May 18 through 22. Election Day is May 26.
