Tasty Trio Takes Top Spots in Fair Food Contest

Big Red Chicken Bread by Brent and Juan Reaves was named Best Taste - Sweet.

The winners of the 2019 Big Tex Choice Awards, the top three spots in the coveted culinary contest, have been crowned.

In the Best Taste – Savory category, Ruth's Stuffed Fried Taco Cone by Ruth Hauntz took first place. Big Red Chicken Bread by Brent and Juan Reaves of Smokey John's Bar-B-Que was named Best Taste – Sweet. As for the Most Creative category, the Fla'Mango Tango by the Garza Family took the top spot.

Fla'Mango Tango by The Garza Family was named Most Creative.

These three winning dishes were chosen by a panel of judges, including Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson; Dallas City Council member Adam Bazaldua, District 7; chef Samir Dhurandhar of Nick & Sam's; executive chef of Cafe Momentum Chad Houser; Kyle Noonan, owner of FreeRange Concepts; TV personality LeeAnne Locken; José chef Anastacia Quiñones; and audience member Charles Archer from Rockwall.

The State Fair of Texas runs Sept. 27 through Oct. 20.
