A whopping 23 candidates are running in the special election to replace Ron Wright, who died in February after he tested positive for COVID-19. There are 11 Republicans, 10 Democrats, a Libertarian and an Independent on the ballot.
Wright’s widow, Susan, is running, but it’s unclear how much the family’s name will help her. Other Republicans are staking out very clear stances for or against former President Trump. There are a few relatively well-known Democrats running as well.
The district covers part of the cities of Arlington and Fort Worth, and a large rural territory covering Waxahachie, Ennis, Corsicana and Eureka.
The 2018 primary elections in the district drew about 75,000 votes between both parties.
