Google Maps Rolls Out 'Speed Trap' Feature

Screenshot

Google may help you avoid that speeding ticket. The web giant's popular Maps program rolled out speed trap warnings in several markets, including Texas.

The first reports about the feature were posted on the website Reddit on Wednesday.

The function appears as a tiny speed gun icon on the mobile app. Speed limits are also visible for Android and Apple users.

The new feature may be a result of Google's integration of Waze software. It comes more than five years after Google purchased the Israeli-social mapping company for more than $1 billion.

Waze had allowed users to also add gas price information, road closures, hazard locations and other warnings.
