The mayor of Dallas says the southern sector appears headed in the right direction.

Mike Rawlings's GrowSouth initiative has spent six years trying to jump-start growth in that area.

His annual report Thursday pointed to some promising numbers: A 7 percent increase in population,  per capita income and real estate values are up, and median home sales have increased 146 percent.
