The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

White House adviser Jared Kushner will visit North Texas on Friday to promote prison reform. The president's son-in-law will tour the Seagoville Federal Correctional Institution, along with U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. The Houston Chronicle reports the pair will also be briefed on the prison's community re-entry and drug treatment program.

Cornyn is one of the chief sponsors of new prison reform legislation aimed at reducing recidivism and rehabilitating low-risk offenders.

Other stories this evening:

  • When longtime Congressman Joe Barton announced his retirement in the middle of a sexual scandal, 11 Republicans campaigned to replace him. Now, the race is down to two: Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Ron Wright was the top vote-getter with 45 percent of the vote. Jake Ellzey, a pilot, got 22 percent. As KERA’s Christopher Connelly reports, in this primary runoff election, one thing up for debate? The value of political experience.

  • The Dallas Symphony's Soluna Festival has distinguished itself in recent years with collaborations between music and other arts. Saturday night, the festival hosts an evening of bold mash-ups, like hip-hop star Nas teaming with members of the DSO. Further down the bill, Art & Seek’s Jerome Weeks finds another pairing with some real potential.
