The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Plano City Councilman Tom Harrison will face a special recall election in November. He drew criticism from residents and his council colleagues for sharing a Facebook post that promoted a ban on Islam in schools.

A group in Plano last week submitted a recall petition with more than 4,400 signatures. The city secretary declared it valid Monday, and the city council voted 6-0 to call an election. One member abstained.

Residents seeking to oust Harrison called the posts racist, bigoted and not representative of their city. Harrison says he won't resign and is not racist.

Under the city charter, Harrison can request a public hearing. He wants his scheduled for the next council meeting on April 23.
