Top Stories: Remembering The Victims Of The Austin Bombings; Bluebonnets On Theater Stage

Teachers noticed Draylen Mason had a natural talent and passion for music right away.

The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

Two people were killed and four others were injured during this month's series of Austin bombings

Seventeen year old East Austin College Prep student Draylen Mason was killed by a package bomb left outside his house in East Austin.  Mason was an accomplished musician who played the double bass.

Anthony Stephan House was killed March 2, the 39-year-old was a father and a graduate of Texas State University. Friends say House was quiet and self-assured, even at a young age.

  • As we head into bluebonnet season, a new play explores the legend of how the flowers came to Texas. Maria Rocha co-wrote "Yana Wana's Legend of the Bluebonnet" for Dallas Children's Theater. She's also executive director of the Indigenous Cultures Institute in San Marcos. In this week's State of the Arts conversation, Rocha talked with KERA's Anne Bothwell about why it's important to reclaim this story.
