National Weather Service

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: The National Weather Service is forecasting freezing rain, sleet, and isolated thunderstorms for parts of North Texas.

The weather's closed a number of school districts, including Decatur and Weatherford.

It's also causing delays at DFW Airport. Check your airline before leaving home.

A Winter Weather Advisory's in effect for Denton, Fannin, Grayson, Hamilton, Hood, Mills, and Somervell Counties until 10 a.m. Another Winter Weather Advisory's in place for areas from Comanche to Weatherford to Gainesville until 1 p.m.

Other stories this morning:

  • Thomas Whittaker's waiting to hear if the state will execute him tonight. The state parole board this week recommended that the Governor commute Whittaker's death sentence to life at the urging of his father.
  • In the 15 Texas counties with the most registered voters, more Democrats cast primary ballots than Republicans on the first day of early voting. That hasn't happened since 2008.
  • The Big Screen team this week discusses "Get Out,” which is up for four Academy Awards.

You can listen to North Texas stories weekdays at 8:22 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. on KERA 90.1 FM.
