The top local stories this morning from KERA News: 106 peoplehave died so far this flu season in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton and Parker counties.

Dallas County has experienced the most flu deaths. The Health & Human Services department Wednesday confirmed six additional deaths, bringing the total for Dallas county to 60.

More than 2,800 people in Texas have died from adult flu or pneumonia as well as five flu-related pediatric deaths as of Feb. 2.

The Centers for Disease Control last month said the flu shot is less effective against the dominant strain this season. However, medical professionals say it’s still worth getting because it reduces the severity and risk of the flu.
