In North Texas, highs are expected to reach into the lower 50s on Friday. Pretty doable for a winter day, right? But in true Texas fashion, highs will take a nosedive, tumbling into the upper 20s over the next three days. And conditions are going to vary wildly.
Note that those upper 20s are forecasted highs: The National Weather Service forecasts lows of upper teens on Sunday and New Year's Day, with wind chill in the lower teens.
Conditions will get interesting, too, making roads extra precarious on New Year's Eve.
• Friday will start out cloudy -- but there will be gradual clearing throughout the day.
• Saturday has a 20 percent chance of showers. An arctic cold front will take over much of the country, North Texas included. Rain and drizzle will continue in the evening.
• Sunday gives us the possibility of flurries or freezing rain (although the weather service says this isn't a certainty just yet). The biggest chance is in the afternoon for much of North Texas.
• Monday should be sunny and clear — and cold as all get-out.
