Top Stories: The Special Session Enters Week 3; How To Avoid A Heat Stroke

Texas House of Representatives

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: The special legislative session resumes in Austin this afternoon.

The Senate hammered out most of Gov. Greg Abbott's special agenda items last week. Today, they're expected to debate placing a cap on how much local spending can grow.

Meanwhile, four bills on maternal mortality are today's agenda in the House. That chamber's moving at a much slower pace on some of the Governor's priorities, such as the so-called bathroom bill.

Other stories this morning:

  • Thousands of basketball fans showed up at American Airlines Center in Dallas to watch former NBA greats play three-on-three. However, top-draw Hall of Famer Allen Iverson didn’t show up.
  • North Texas sports achieved several milestones, including an announcement on the NHL draft and baseball honors.
