The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Congress is on recess this week - without a vote on the Senate's bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Republican Senate leaders wanted to pass the bill before the break, but they couldn't get enough votes to support it.

U.S. House member Michael Burgess from Pilot Point spearheaded the effort to undo Obamacare. On WFAA's Inside Texas Politics, he acknowledged those efforts weren't happening as quickly as some had hoped.

Other stories this morning:

  • Texas has some of the highest rates of the most common form of liver cancer in the country.
  • More pets end up in animal shelters on July 4 than any other day of the year. The reason: fireworks.
