Demonstrators outside the Office of the Governor support a sit-in protest led by City Council Member Greg Casar and dozens of others to protest SB4.

The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

A federal judge in San Antonio this morning will hear arguments for putting the state’s new sanctuary cities ban on hold while the court considers whether the law violates the U.S. Constitution.

Dallas is among the major Texas cities challenging Senate Bill 4. It would punish cities and law enforcement officials who do not comply with federal immigration detainers.

The U.S. Justice Department Friday filed a statement of interest, arguing the bill is constitutional and valid. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also filed a pre-emptive lawsuit when the SB 4 was signed, asking a federal court to declare it constitutional.

A court in Austin will consider Paxton's request Thursday.

Other stories this morning:

  • Fair Park residents will get a chance to sound off on plans to revitalize the fairgrounds at a community meeting tonight.
  • A new study has found longer survival rates for women with the most severe form of breast cancer.
