The top local stories this morning from KERA News: ESPN and several local media outlets are reporting Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is retiring from the game and going into broadcasting.

Neither Romo nor team officials have commented.

Last month, it was speculated Romo would either be traded to the Houston Texans or Denver Broncos, but nothing has happened since then. Romo, who turns 37 this month, hasn’t been officially released by the Cowboys.

Other stories this morning:

  • Texas lawmakers are hopeful they’ll be able to pass a “texting-while-driving-ban” this legislative session. Texas is one of four states that doesn’t have a ban on the books. Previous efforts to pass a ban have failed, but past opponents of texting legislation may be changing their tune.
  • We conclude our series “Race, Poverty, and the Changing Face of Schools” with O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth.
