Top Stories: Severe Weather In North Texas; The Great Tonsil Debate

National Weather Service/Twitter
There will be more chances for severe weather late Tuesday and Wednesday.

The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Most of North Texas was under a tornado or severe thunderstorm watch last night. Collin and Denton counties faced the brunt of severe weather.

“We had some baseball hail up in Argyle in Denton County, but the largest was in Corinth,” National Weather Service meteorologist Daniel Huckaby said. “We had a hail stone that was softball sized – over four inches in diameter.”

There were reports of hail damage to homes, cars and businesses. At least one funnel cloud was confirmed, but the National Weather Service hasn’t determined yet if it was a tornado.

There’s another chance of storms late tomorrow or Wednesday.

Other stories this morning:

  • STAAR testing begins across Texas this week. The TEA hopes nearly $20 million spent in improvements will help avoid glitches that occurred last year. More than 14,000 students had answers erased or were given the wrong versions of the test.
  • Chances are many of you have had your tonsils removed, but two recent studies differ on when and if that’s necessary.
