Top Stories: ‘Bathroom Bill’ Heads To Full Senate; An Update On Encore Park

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: The full Texas Senate will take up the so-called “bathroom bill” next week, after a committee advanced Senate Bill 6 early this morning.

It would require transgender people to use public bathrooms that correspond with the sex on their birth certificate. It would also nix local anti-discrimination laws meant to allow transgender residents to use bathrooms that match their gender identity.

SB 6 face a tough road if it reaches the House. Republican Speaker Joe Straus has slammed the measure as being bad for business.
