The top local stories this evening from KERA News:
The Texas Education Agency today released report cards for school districts and campuses across the state. It’s a new system based on A-through-F letter grades. Under the new system, every campus and district gets rated in several different areas, including student test scores, how much progress students are making on tests, closing achievement gaps as well as college and career readiness.
KERA’s Stella Chavez reports, many districts aren’t happy about the new system.

- Donald Trump will be sworn in as president in a couple of weeks. What impact could his administration have on the economy in Texas – which leads the nation in exports? Mark Jones, a political scientist at Rice University in Houston, says there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding Trump’s economic policy.
- Fort Worth’s Amon Carter Museum of American Art announced a $20 million donation this week. The money will pay for education programs and new exhibitions. KERA’s Vice President of Arts Anne Bothwell sat down with Andrew Walker, the museum’s executive director, to learn more about the long friendship that led to the largest gift the museum’s ever received.
- Winter weather snarled traffic in North Texas this evening. Although the snowfall stopped in the afternoon, there were reports of accidents and slowdowns on several highways in the metropolitan area.
